“The Last Gatsby IS NOT TO BE IGNORED. They are the most innovative musical band that has come from the Utah Market since The Used… I hope that whatever Gods this band holds dear smiles on them and lets the rest of the world discover them for many more years to come.”

Artist Bio:

Driven by the creative vision of lead vocalist Josh Paul, The Last Gatsby emerged in the Salt Lake City music scene, with their introspective and emotionally charged sound. Joined by drummer Jonathan Hoopes and guitarist Garrett Samuelson, the band began carving out a space in the punk and emo landscape.

Their debut album, Hearts and Machines (2013), recorded by renowned producer and engineer Dave Zimmerman, introduced their unique blend of punchy punk progressions and introspective lyricism. The album’s lead single, "Coffin," struck a chord with fans, positioning The Last Gatsby as a force to be reckoned with in the local scene. They went on to share stages with notable bands like Cartel, I The Mighty, Chunk! No, Captain Chunk!, Hail the Sun, Knuckle Puck, and Tiny Moving Parts, building a loyal fanbase throughout the West Coast and beyond.

Their sophomore effort, The Art of Recovery (2016), recorded with Sam Pura at Panda Studios, took their sound to new heights. The album explored themes of personal struggle, resilience, and perseverance—reflecting the internal challenges faced by frontman Josh Paul, who was later diagnosed with oligodendroglioma, a form of brain cancer. Following surgery in 2018, Josh made a remarkable recovery, only to face a recurrence in 2021. However, his determination to keep going never wavered, inspiring the band’s future direction.

After an 7 year hiatus, The Last Gatsby has re-emerged in 2024 with a renewed focus and the release of "Life Lessons," a previously unreleased track that had been shelved for years. The band continues to create music that resonates with themes of survival, resilience, and hope. They are more determined than ever to push their creative boundaries and make their mark, crafting songs that speak to overcoming life’s greatest challenges. Gatsby plans to release new music in 2024 and the years to come.
